Ok, so I used to be one of those Mac “people.” Not exactly a fanboy…girl….whatever, however I did believe they were better for “creative” stuff. I currently have a G4, G5, iPod, iPod nano and an old ass iBook all of which is destined for the e-bay very soon. Having said that, I feel I am more than qualified to bash Apple a little if I want. They do have a lot of my money. I enjoy a good Apple. However, about a year and a half ago I had this bag of self awareness that smacked me upside the head. I had become brand loyal.
What the hell? I started loving macs because they were the underdog, they were pretty and I was also a tad brain washed by a friend. I won’t mention any names, Bob. I started becoming irritated with the fanboys or other tools who start to adore the same product that I did. Plus, I became infuriated with the excessive expense. Plus, plus I live in Springfield Illinois (note to Chicagoans: its the capital of your state) and I can’t exactly run to Best Buy to pick up software or for that matter call my ISP when something screws up and expect them to know how to help. Tried that.
Anyway, I had been annoyed at all the media coverage the iPhone was getting. I have had many discussions/arguments about how ridiculous it was. I thought we were passed that by now, but nooOOO, Time Magazine has declared it the invention of the year. Really?? I must say that the article starts out beautifully. Lev Grossman was right on the money as far as knowing his audience. I even agree with a few of his reasons. However, the invention of the year? Are you kidding me? The cover says the iPhone has “changed phones forever” Really?? I mean seriously? The touch screen was mentioned in the article also. I have had 3 Palm Treos over the last several years and if I remember correctly they had touch screens quite awhile ago. No, not as smooth but Apple certainly didn’t invent it. They simply did better advertising. Good for them. And the most upsetting thing to me was that Time picked this OVER the XO laptop for $150. I totally believe that this laptop could change the world. I am shocked Time passed over so many inventions by an overpriced iPod that makes phone calls and is simply a toy of status for hipsters and fanboys. Having said that, check out the article and the whole edition because there are some kick-ass inventions featured and one really cool space suit that would go beautifully with the space helmet Jon and I just adopted. Love, Bobby McBlogger
That $150 laptop? Please. That’s half the price of the iPhone, and therfore half as good. The free market doesn’t lie. Plus, if I buy two of them, I don’t want one going to some foreign country. That’s why I have 2 iPhones–one for my inflated sense of self-worth, and the other for my butler. Because I’m not going to share. Although it is pretty neat to move stuff around with your finger.
I agree Jon it is neat to move things with your finger. Ya know what else you can do with your finger?
